2011 MTV MUSIC AWARDS

A nother year, another unbelievably action-packed Video Music Awards! As expected, viewers were treated to mind-blowing performances and several jaw-dropping surprises. The most unexpected moment came courtesy of Beyoncé, who announced to the world that she and husband Jay-Z are expecting their first child. Baby bump aside, the show went on for Beyoncé, who performed “Love on Top” in her usual high-energy fashion. Rocking sky-high stilettos and a sequined Dolce & Gabbana tuxedo jacket. It was a big night for the expectant mom, who will turn 30 on Sept. 4, and Jay-Z, who performed live with Kanye West. Kanye and Jay-Z performed Otis, off their chart-topping joint album, Watch the Throne. Near the end of the song, someone tried to walk on the stage but was quickly stopped by a crewmember. Two years ago, it was Lil Mama who walked onstage unannounced during Jay-Z’s MTV performance.

Dressed in a white formal suit, Chris Brown slow-shuffled down to the dance stage, and once he landed in the middle of the dance floor, he was flanked by dancers. He danced and sang his hit “Yeah 3X,” while Kanye West jumped to his feet and clapped his approval. Things really reached new heights as Chris was elevated high above the crowd, connected to invisible wires, giving the audience a “Matrix”-like performance. Every time he went up in the air, he did splits and back-flips.
